Conceição, Tavira
Pensão Agrícola is a small farmhouse in the orchards outside Tavira, and golf here ends the way it should. You come off the course, pour a drink from the honesty bar, and sink into the plunge tank as the light drops over the fig and almond trees.
It’s quiet, intimate and rooted in its land, with six suites, no crowds and nothing to rush for. Five courses are within easy reach.
The farm was built in 1920 as a wedding gift from the Silva Gomes family to their only daughter. It worked the land until 1970, then sat closed for forty years. When Atelier Rua restored it, the furniture, photographs, clothes and books found inside were kept and woven back into the rooms.
Staying here feels less like checking into a hotel and more like being let into a family’s home.
The house sits among orange, fig, almond, arbutus and carob orchards, 1.5 km from the Ria Formosa and its deserted beaches. It even has its own signature scent, created by perfumer Lourenço Lucena.
The farm’s guardian is Jeremias the donkey, and guests are welcome to help feed him.
Six suites, each with its own character: Curral, Chaminé, Armazém, Páteo, Açoteia and Muro. Three are in the original farm building and three are in independent exterior modules.
