Tavira, Algarve, Portugal
Parkland Course

Benamor Golf, near Tavira, was first envisioned by Sir Henry Cotton in the 1980s, though the course was only completed years later by architect Howard Swan. Opened in 2000, it is still proudly promoted as a Cotton design, with its clubhouse set beside a disused church that adds to the charm of the property.
The course unfolds across gently undulating terrain, framed by almond, carob, cork and olive trees, with views stretching from the mountains to the Atlantic. Though elevation changes are frequent, the walk remains comfortable.
Highlights include the tight par-five 5th, the downhill par-four 6th, and two memorable par threes: the 10th, played over a gully to a pulpit green, and the 17th, with its pond and dramatic bunkering. Benamor offers a varied and scenic test, perfect for golfers looking for character and history in the eastern Algarve.
